Vocabulary Lesson: Another Quibble with the Nurse

Nurse: “I’m going to give you a transfusion tonight”

Dad: “You’d do that, wouldn’t you. Out of the orneriness of your heart.”

Nurse: “Huh?”

Me: “Sort of the opposite of kindness.”

Dad: “There used to be meaning to that word.”

Me: “There still is.”

Nurse: “It’s just that no one knows what the meaning is.”

Dad: “Except for her and me and most other people.”
